Paid to fail…by the taxpayers…

You know I haven’t had too many run ins with cops, but I do have my list…a very nice collection of tickets for driving fast. Hey…what else am I supposed to do with an RX-7 and a BMW?

I used to have a classified respect for cops, usually the bottom of the scale was the county cops in my area. They were the ones most unfit and usually the most redneckish, next up was the city cops. They usually were somewhere in the middle of being professional and stupid at the same time…I was once pulled over in a car wash, I was accused of “hot roding through town” I was doing 35mph in 2nd gear in an RX-7…one of the few times I’m driving normal dead on the speed limit and I get “pulled over” several mins after the fact while I’m sitting in a carwash stall. Then finally the state troopers, whom seemed to be the most mature acting and professional out of them all. Needless to say the majority of cops seem to think they are above the law, and whatever they do or say is “ok” because they are cops.

Former San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy Ivory J. Webb Jr. is on trial for attempted voluntary manslaughter in the 2006 shooting of an unarmed Air Force police officer during a traffic stop. Airman Elio Carrion was shot after the deputy pursued the Corvette in which he was a passenger at high speed through the streets of Chino. Webb has pleaded not guilty.

Of course…why would he be guilty? it’s only 3 rounds shot into someone who was only doing what he was asked. I laugh at the fact cops think people hate them because they’re cops…well not most of us with some common sense hate the fact they are so unprofessional about their job that taxpayers pay them to do.

I respect cops who act professional…but if a cop shoots me for no reason, he better hope to hell I’m hurt bad enough not to jump on him in “self defense”.

I don’t normally post personal items, but I think that everyone should know about some of the horrible things happening at San Diego International Airport and with Delta Airlines. I wrote this immediately after the events that transpired so that I would have an accurate log.

Summers are the busiest travel time of the year. Each year more than 750 million passengers move through our country’s airports raking up more than 800 billion miles of travel. (Source) Along with the increase in demand, air travel complaints are up as well. (Source PDF)

Now, we all know this year has been a special one for the airlines and air travel as a whole. From the JetBlue hostage crisis, the terrorist “dry runs” on airport security around the country, and the most recent debacle on Southwest Airlines where they asked a woman to cover up because of her lewd attire.

Chinese military hackers have prepared a detailed plan to disable America’s aircraft battle carrier fleet with a devastating cyber attack, according to a Pentagon report obtained by The Times.

The blueprint for such an assault, drawn up by two hackers working for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), is part of an aggressive push by Beijing to achieve “electronic dominance” over each of its global rivals by 2050, particularly the US, Britain, Russia and South Korea.

China’s ambitions extend to crippling an enemy’s financial, military and communications capabilities early in a conflict, according to military documents and generals’ speeches that are being analysed by US intelligence officials. Describing what is in effect a new arms race, a Pentagon assessment states that China’s military regards offensive computer operations as “critical to seize the initiative” in the first stage of a war.

Two words “null route”…I mean for real…if they start acting like this then unplug their ass. It’s not impossible to disconnect China from the rest of the word, and they’re useless anyway, 45% of the world’s malware/SPAM comes from them and it’s rather funny since they are behind one massive firewall. Justin Delfino looked out the window of his Ahwatukee home and couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

It was shortly after noon on July 23 and several men dressed in black jeans and green shirts were getting out of an unmarked white Suburban, casually putting on flak jackets and helmets.

Soon the men were lingering in front of his neighbor’s house in the upscale gated subdivision of quarter-million-dollar homes.

Delfino never would have guessed that he was witnessing the final preparations by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team moments before it unleashed a barrage of tear gas grenades into his neighbor’s home.

“They looked unprofessional. They were getting dressed on the scene. They weren’t organized,” Delfino, 22, says.

From his vantage point inside his home, Delfino couldn’t see that deputies had rolled an armored personnel carrier into the neighbor’s front yard as they prepared to storm the house.

Delfino could see no readily visible insignia on any of the men, so he figured the scene must be a prelude to a prank on the two men and a woman with a toddler who lived in the two-story stucco house across the street.

“I thought, these must be their friends and they are going to try and shoot paint balls at them,” Delfino says.

But soon he knew that what he first thought was a gag must be about something deadly serious.

oh the hotness…another example of how NOT to fail

oh yes…I shall be adding one of these iPod Touch’s to my collection. I’m not one of those nuts who takes and mp3 player everywhere I go, but seriously…I can have some music, some movies, and wi-fi with a decent web browser in my pocket. This becomes more of an all-in-one tool for me rather than a toy. Not to mention possible future software programs that allow me to do network testing without the need for a laptop.

I know all the Apply fanboys are drooling over this, but I think it’d make a hell of a tool for myself without getting into the iPhone crap…at least until Palm releases a Linux based Treo.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — Six nuclear warheads on cruise missiles were mistakenly carried on a flight from North Dakota to Louisiana last week, prompting a major investigation, military officials have confirmed.

The plane took the cruise missiles from Minot Air Force Base to Barksdale Air Force Base for decommissioning Thursday, the Air Force said.

“This is a major gaffe, and it’s going to cause some heads to roll down the line,” said Don Shepperd, a retired Air Force major general and military analyst for CNN.

The warheads should have been removed from the missiles before they were attached to the B-52 bomber, according to military officials.

Being an Air Force brat myself (my dad was a B-52 crew member) I find this rather amusing when something like this reaches the public eye. There are probably countless rednecks no where near the flight path of the plane, in mass panic and gossip that a nuke “flew over them”. Eh this isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last. One of those missiles could fall into their backyard and be nothing more than a lawn dart. woo Made in America!

Either way, someone got paid to fail bigtime.

So I’m sitting here in a company meeting, and we can’t stay on track for anything. Every week it’s the same stuff, 95% of this doesn’t matter to me being the network engineer. I don’t really consider myself “above” anyone else here, but damn I feel like I lose IQ points in these meetings.

My 5 reasons why company meetings like this always fail to make any progress.

#5) We start with no direction

#4) The lead person has no idea what he’s trying to lead

#3) The company in general spends all it’s time trying to reinvent wheels

#2) The company spends it’s time chasing these wheel reinvention ideas like they are actually good ideas

#1) When an idea doesn’t work, they look around confused and ask “why doesn’t the idea work?”

Back to the meeting…

I’m going to file this under “failure to win a war”…for the opposing side that is…There’s nothing like sitting at home in the good old USofA and flying your remote control plane on the other side of the world, blowing things up with a chilled Coke in one hand and a joystick in the other. Best “video game” ever!!

The Air Force this fall will deploy a new generation of pilotless airplane with the bombing power of an F-16 to help stop the stubborn Taliban insurgency in Afghanistan.

The Reaper is an upgraded version of the Predator, which has become one of the military’s most sought-after planes since it first appeared in Afghanistan in 2001. The Reaper can fly three times as fast as a Predator and carry eight times more weaponry, such as Hellfire missiles, the Air Force said.

The Reaper’s greater range and speed make it better suited than the Predator to Afghanistan with its vast, rugged terrain. The Reaper will also be deployed to Iraq. Its speed and arms will let it track and kill moving targets able to elude a Predator, said Brig. Gen. James Poss, director of intelligence for Air Combat Command at Langley Air Force Base, Va.

Can’t fail much worse than this…

An IBM server worth $1.4 million was wrecked after it fell off a forklift during shipping. Now the customer is suing — claiming that the computer maker failed to properly package the high-end business system.

Federal contractor T.R. Systems says its workers were moving the server from a freight truck into its warehouse in Alexandria, Va., when the mishap occurred. “The rear wheels of their forklift hit the raised surface at the entry door of the warehouse, causing the forklift to rock, and subsequently causing the server to rock,” T.R. Systems says in court papers filed last month.

“As a result of the rocking motion, the base of the pallet and the crate broke and the crate fell onto the curb, damaging the server packed inside,” the contractor states in papers filed in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Va.

Mars Exploration Rover Status Report: Rovers Resume Driving

After six weeks of hunkering down during raging dust storms that limited solar power, both of NASA’s Mars Exploration Rovers, Spirit and Opportunity, have resumed driving.

Opportunity advanced 13.38 meters (44 feet) toward the edge of Victoria Crater on Aug. 21. Mission controllers were taking advantage of gradual clearing of dust from the sky while also taking precautions against buildup of dust settling onto the rover.
